Hello, my name is Ed Gillin I have been doing inwater photography in Ocean City, NJ since 1974. This image above is from my first camera. It was a Ikelite diving housing used for a Kodak instamatic. Unfortunately, the camera broke and I was unable to use the housing after the first couple of times. The camera broke and that was the end of my surfing photos till I purchased a used Nikonos II. that camera worked well till wear and tear took it toll. The Nikonos occupies a space on the mantle as a giant paper weight. The advent of digital technology as well as the upgrades and in camera and housing technology has led to a new breed of inwater and land based photography and videography. Starting with my family's Super 8mm camera, I made my first surfing film back in the 8th grade. Surfing has been a very important part of my life. The lifestyle, exercise , travel and friends that you meet cannot compare to anything else I have done in my life.
